Single-seat, ultra-efficient VW

Backed by the German government, the Nils will make its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show coming up later this month. It is fully electric with a range of 65km (40 miles) and a top speed of 80 MPH. It is only 3 meters long, 1.2 meters high, and did we mention it is single occupancy? The roof frame, door mounts and bulkheads are all sheet aluminum, making it a very light and fun to drive vehicle.

The range may seem small, but it is not round trip and most people travel less than 20 miles to work. The power comes from a relatively cheap 5.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, and it can produce 25kWh in short bursts. Several safety features are apparent such as the electronic stability system and automatic distance control that keeps the driver from following too closely. A portable infotainment system similar to what we will see in the up! VW vehicle.

It's an interesting vehicle all-around, and there is a plan to release it in Europe in the future. So far, no news about America getting a version, though, so keep your fingers crossed if you are interested.
